Our inspiration

Club Innovación Acuícola and this site

The Club is a community of companies and organizations working to strengthen collaborative innovation among its members, so that aquaculture in Chile and the world can become more efficient and sustainable.

Aquaculture is the youngest and fastest-growing food-production activity among the various forms of animal production. In the coming decades it is meant to fill the gap between rising demand for aquatic food and the stagnant supply from traditional fisheries. The aim is for the activity to double its production over the next two decades, offering more food that is also better from a nutritional point of view and valuable for food security.

Even so, it is still little known by the public, which in general does not know the production methods, the control systems, the traceability and the quality of processes and products, and especially the research and innovation work being carried out.

The Club has wanted to contribute to a clearer, objective understanding of the processes and trends in global and national aquaculture and, in particular, of salmon farming, which is where its main work has been focused.

This site exists to provide objective information to the general public, consumers, stakeholders, students and other groups interested in learning more about the activity in Chile and in other countries.

This contribution puts the emphasis on innovation, which is the Club's focus, and especially on its connection with current and future challenges.

Focus

Although the site keeps a strong link with salmon farming, the activity around which the Club was built in Chile, this version also includes the current state and the outlook for global salmon farming. Aquaculture has been added as the broader activity, and it is covered from both perspectives as well.

The answers to the questions consumers and the general public ask most often about salmon farming — processes, products and impact — remain in place.

In short, we have no other aim than to contribute, with transparency, to a better understanding of this sector of the national economy, one of the most dynamic in the world.

Its importance today, and the importance projected for it, makes it unnecessary to go further into the reasons that have led us to maintain and expand the “ABC of Chilean Salmon Farming”.
